Château La Conseillante is amongst the greatest of Pomerol producers. It can trace its history back to 1735 and has been in the hands of the Nicolas family since 1874. La Conseillante's 13 hectares of vineyards are located on a plateau in eastern Pomerol on the boundary with the St-Emilion appellation. Its vineyards borders those of L`Evangile, Petit-Village, Vieux Château-Certan and Cheval Blanc.
The name of La Conseillante appears in the middle of the 18th century. It has been given by Mrs. Catherine Conseillan, who ran the estate almost 300 years before today. In 1871, the Nicolas' family buys the property, which surface and plots remain unchanged since this period. Today, the estate is managed by the fourth and fifth generations, assuring family continuity and the attachment of a name to a great wine.
The soil has a large concentration of clay in the northern part, bordering on Pétrus and clay- gravel soil in the southern part, bordering Chevalier Blanc. The Grape varieties a La Conseillante are as follows : 80% Merlot, and 20% Cabernet Franc. The wine of La Conseillante is full, round, velvety and creamy with all the voluptuous softness of Merlot combined with the finesse of Cabernet Franc, which also contributes a fruity bouquet with hints of truffle.
Have you get their collection yet ? Here was their Top Vintages of the wines : 1989, 1985, 1998, 2001 & 2005.
